6 medtech notes: Exactech, Stryker and more

From a business sell-off to leadership appointments, here are six key updates from spine and orthopedic medtech companies since Oct. 23.

1. Jacob Calcei, MD, was named as medical advisor for Lazurite.

2. Zimmer Biomet's Z1 femoral hip system was used in its first patient cases, and the company is preparing to launch the product.

3. Exactech filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and signed a comprehensive restructuring support agreement and asset purchase agreement with a group of its existing investors.

4. Pixee Medical, a developer of augmented reality navigation technologies for orthopedic surgery, tapped Josh Hagel as its vice president of U.S. sales. 

5. CytexOrtho earned FDA approval to begin a clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of its absorbable hip implant in human patients.

6. Stryker's net sales grew to $5.5 billion in the third quarter of 2024, according to financial results posted Oct. 29.
