FDA clears two surgical robots focused on imaging, spine

Spinal Tech

The FDA approved two Brainlab surgical robots: the Loop-X Mobile Imaging Robot and Cirq, a robotic surgical system for spine procedures, the company announced Feb. 22.

Both devices received a CE mark in mid-2020. The FDA clearance allows the company to begin selling the robotic systems in the U.S.

The company believes the Loop-X is the first fully robotic intraoperative imaging device on the market, while the Cirq robotic alignment module assists surgeons during spine procedures.

Sean Clark, Brainlab president, said the robots are an expansion of the company's digital surgery portfolio and that the company's efforts are advancing the future of a digital-first operating room.
