NYU Langone debuts Globus Medical's latest spine tech

Spinal Tech

Jeffrey A. Goldstein, MD, completed the world's first case with Globus Medical's new spine system, Excelsius3D.

Excelsius3D is a mobile X-ray system designed for 2D fluoroscopy, 2D digital radiography and 3D imaging in adult or pediatric spine patients, according to a May 9 email to Becker's. The robot-assisted case was done at New York City-based NYU Langone Health, and the patient is recovering.

"We're excited to be the first medical center in the world to successfully implement and use this new enabling technology," Dr. Goldstein said in a statement. "This first-of-its-kind system helps immensely in the operating room to ensure we do surgery in less invasive ways and with higher degrees of accuracy."

Dr. Goldstein is the director of NYU Langone Health's spine surgery fellowship.
