Happe Spine received two U.S. patents for its "HydroxyApatite Porous PolyEtheretherketone" products, the company said Oct. 5.
One patent covers implantable devices made with a thermoplastic polymer such as polyetheretherketone, at least one region with interconnected porosity and bioactive particles, according to a news release. The other protects a manufacturing process for implants involving thermoplastic polymers with regions of differing porosity.
Happe's proprietary material has interconnected, cancellous porosity and bioactive surfaces with exposed hydroxyapatite for bone in-growth and on-growth.
