The Scoliosis Research Society honored Juergen Harms, MD, and Alberto Ponte, MD, with the 2019 SRS Lifetime Achievement Award on Sept. 19.
The award honored the physicians for distinguished service to the society and contributions to spinal deformity care.
Dr. Harms designed several spinal implants and surgical techniques. He served as a teacher in the spinal deformity field, educating surgeons about spine surgery and biomechanics.
Dr. Ponte developed the Ponte Osteotomy, a technique that advanced the treatment of thoracic hyperkyphosis by shortening the posterior column of the spine.
The two physicians received the awards at the 54th SRS Annual Meeting in Montreal, Canada, Sept. 18 to 21.
