Spine Wave’s Spine Surgery Breakthrough: 5,000 Salvo® Spine System Procedures

Spine

Shelton, Connecticut-based Spine Wave celebrates a major milestone with its Salvo® Spine System as 5,000 procedures with this popular modular thoracolumbar fixation system are performed.

The Salvo® Spine System addresses most thoracolumbar fixation procedures with an advanced modular screw design that can enhance visibility within the surgical field even when less invasive procedures are used. Surgeons appreciate the distinct audible and visual keys that make confirmation of proper screw assembly easy and reliable. The novel modular tensioned head prevents the tulip from “flopping”, which facilitates rod approximation into the screws. The triple lead screw offered in either a 2mm or 3mm pitch design provides speedy insertion without giving up pullout strength. Taken together, these features can make thoracolumbar fixation procedures easier, safer, and faster. Salvo® Spine System’s modular design provides a full complement of implant options with fewer cases and trays to process and keep on site, which may reduce hospital operating costs.

Spine Wave first launched the Salvo® 4.75mm Spine System to address cortical bone trajectory and low-profile transpedicular procedures. The Salvo® 5.5/6.0mm Spine System was then offered for traditional procedures performed with 5.5mm and 6.0mm rods, and then augmented with a comprehensive array of reduction heads, connectors, and other components for complex procedures. Now, Spine Wave is initiating limited market availability of the Salvo® XT Spine System for less invasive percutaneous screw procedures.

Babajide Ogunseinde, M.D., FAAOS., commented, “The addition of minimally invasive capabilities to the Salvo® Spine System will revolutionize my thoracolumbar spine fixation procedures because it combines the best qualities of its proven degenerative and deformity offerings with minimally invasive components into one integrated and seamless system. This will allow surgeons to have all surgical options available on their back table within one set of instrumentation.” He continued, “this versatility will be especially useful in complex procedures, and when combining open and percutaneous fixation components into one construct.” Dr. Ogunseinde is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon practicing at the Longview Orthopedics Regional Clinic in Longview, Texas.

“Spine Wave’s project team, alongside our valued and esteemed surgeon advisors, have done an outstanding job with Salvo® Spine System and the new Salvo® XT Spine System components, now in limited release” said Laine Mashburn, Spine Wave’s Executive Vice President, Global Marketing and Business Development. “Spine Wave is delivering on the promise to develop its patented modular fixation technology platform into a comprehensive and streamlined solution that can make a real difference for surgeons, hospitals and their patients.”
