Martinsburg, W. Va.-based WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center has performed its first endoscopic spine procedure.
The operation was performed by Adolfo Viloria, MD, a neurosurgeon with the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, according to a Jan. 2 press release.
Endoscopic spine surgery treats various spinal conditions, such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis and chronic back pain. The approach reduces scarring, minimizes postoperative pain and accelerates recovery compared to traditional open surgery.
