Oren Gottfried, MD, is a board-certified spine neurosurgeon at Duke University Health System in Raleigh and Durham, N.C., and a medical consultant for several television shows, according to MedPage Today.
Here are four things to know:
1. Dr. Gottfried consults for shows including "Royal Pains" on USA, "Elementary" on CBS and "Chicago Med" on NBC.
2. He received his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson and underwent orthopedic spinal deformity surgery fellowship training at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City. He also completed spinal oncology fellowship training at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Hospital.
3. As a medical consultant, Dr. Gottfried says he was once asked what part of the brain controls time travel.
4. Medical consulting for television shows will not generally supplement a physician's income, but interested providers can be listed as potential consultants if they call Hollywood, Health & Society.
