Penn Medicine opens $10M spine center with Dr. William Welch as medical director – 4 things to know

Spine

Penn Medicine opened a new $10 million spine center at Pennsylvania Hospital, both based in Philadelphia.

Four things to know:

1. The Spine Center at Pennsylvania Hospital includes both inpatient and outpatient care as well as nonsurgical treatment, pain management and imaging capabilities.

2. The facility includes space for patient visits, and affiliated physicians will offer virtual visits from the location.

3. Penn Medicine's spine program serves patients from across the region, including in Central Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

4. The center's multidisciplinary team includes specialists in orthopedics, neurosurgery, neurology, physical medicine, pain management, radiology and others on site.

"Our physicians, nurse practitioners and staff collaborate with a team-based approach when caring for spine patients, working together to deliver the best treatment options possible for our patients," said William Welch, MD, medical director of the Penn Spine Center at Pennsylvania Hospital and chair of the neurosurgery department at Pennsylvania Hospital. "Increasing the efficiency of treatment will help get patients back on their feet as quickly as possible while also reducing some of the financial burden that spine disorders can place on patients and their families."
