Around 31 percent of orthopedic surgeons regularly discuss cost of treatment with their patients, according to the Medscape Orthopedist Compensation Report: 2013.
This is around the same percentage of physicians who reported discussing costs with patients in 2011. Among all physicians, 30 percent say they regularly discuss costs with patients.
Another 44 percent of orthopedic surgeons occasionally discuss costs with patients if the patient brings up the subject. Thirteen percent of orthopedic surgeons never discuss costs with their patients because either they don't feel it's appropriate or they don't know the cost of care.
