Walter Lowe, MD, team physician for the Houston Rockets, says that the team's center, Yao Ming, will most likely need surgery for the fracture in his left ankle, according to a Los Angeles Times news report.
Mr. Ming is still deciding how to proceed from the injury that sidelined him in early November, and surgery could mean he would have to wait for 10 months before returning to play. Mr. Ming also sat out last season after reconstructive surgery on a broken left foot.
Dr. Lowe said the new injury is related to the old injury, and that Mr. Ming has been prone to this type of injury throughout his career.
