3-D Printing: The Future of Orthopedic Implants?

The future of medical devices will be in the ability of manufacturers to mimic natural joints — a task 3-D implant printing can help achieve, according to a GlobalData Analyst. Personalized healthcare will increase demands for patient-specific implants, said Linda Tian, MSc. 3-D printing could also produce cost-savings for orthopedics procedures through rapid prototyping and manufacturing.

Ms. Tian anticipates 3-D printed orthopedic devices will greatly increase in small- to medium-sized companies over the next year.
