Dr. Vincent Fowble performs Florida hospital's 1st total knee replacement with new robot

Robotics

Orthopedic surgeon Vincent Fowble, MD, performed Jupiter (Fla.) Medical Center's first total knee replacement surgery using robotic technology in October, reports The Meridian Star.

Four things to know:

1. The hospital acquired a Mako robotic-arm to assist surgeons with knee replacement procedures.

2. Stryker's Mako device increases the accuracy of instrument placement and reduces the risk of soft tissue injury.

3. The robot enables surgeons to create a 3D virtual model of the patient's bone anatomy.

4. Dr. Fowble joined the hospital in 2005 and specializes in total joint replacement of the hip and knee.
