St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, Conn., recently installed the Navio Surgical System for partial and total knee replacements, the Republican American reports.
Three things to know:
1. Designed by Smith+Nephew, Navio aims to improve implant placement and alignment.
2. The hand-held robot enables surgeons to create 3D images of a patient's knee.
3. The 3D imaging allows surgeons to collect patient-specific information, establish spatial boundaries for instruments and increase accuracy when removing damaged surfaces of the knee.
