Sheeraz Qureshi, MD, and Paul Park, MD, were the first surgeons to use the ExcelsiusGPS Interbody Solutions system, Globus Medical said in a Nov. 12 news release.
ExcelsiusGPS has evolved from planning and placing pedicle screws to performing robotic-assisted transforaminal and lateral lumbar interbody fusions from start to finish.
The latest technology helps surgeons navigate disc preparation, trialing and interbody insertion through a rigid arm-mounted retractor.
Dr. Qureshi, spine research director at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, used the technology to perform a robotic TLIF.
Dr. Park, director of spinal surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, performed a single-position lateral interbody fusion.
