Tennessee hospital debuts robot-assisted joint replacements

Athens, Tenn.-based Starr Regional Medical Center debuted Stryker's Mako robot for joint replacements, according to a March 22 announcement in the Daily Post-Athenian.

Lee Radford, MD, performed a total hip replacement on a man Jan. 15. The patient had experienced pain since April 2020. The Mako robot allows for smaller incisions and faster recovery from surgery.

Dr. Radford said adding the technology will let patients stay in the Athens region for treatment.

"They love to be close to their family and friends and I understand that," he said. "This makes being able to provide the Mako robotic surgery at Starr so great for this region."
