20 hospitals, health systems adding robotics in Q1

Here are 20 hospitals and health systems that added spine and orthopedic robots in the first quarter:

1. Abrazo Scottsdale Campus' first robotic knee replacement with Smith+Nephew's Cori system was completed by James Chow, MD, who helped design the device.

2. Sioux Center (Iowa) Health purchased Stryker's Mako robotic arm, a first for Sioux County.

3. Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health's Brent Knudson, DO, completed the region's first total knee replacement with Zimmer Biomet's Rosa Knee.

4. MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland's Mark Goethe, MD, completed the hospital's first robotic-assisted knee replacement with Smith+Nephew's Cori surgical system.

5. Dalton, Ga.-based Hamilton Medical Center started using Stryker's Mako robot.

6. Fauquier Health in Warrenton, Va., aims to become a leader in robotic surgery after recently installing the ExcelsiusGPS and da Vinci Xi robots.

7.Total joint specialist Rajeev Puri, MD, performed Amita Health St. Mary's Hospital's first two joint replacements with Zimmer Biomet's Rosa Knee in February. 

8. The first robotic-assisted total knee replacement at St. Francis-Emory Healthcare in Columbus, Ga., was performed by George Zimmerman, DO.

9. Neurosurgeon Sharad Rajpal, MD, completed Louisville, Colo.-based Centura-Avista Adventist Hospital's first spinal fusion involving Midas Rex high-speed drills with Medtronic's Mazor robot.

10. Harlingen, Texas-based Valley Baptist Medical Center is reportedly the first hospital in the region to install Brainlab's robotic imaging system. 

11. Newport Beach, Calif.-based Hoag Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute became the first West Coast hospital to use Medtronic's Mazor X Stealth Edition robotic platform.

12. Spine surgeons at Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear, Ariz., are offering robotic surgery with Globus Medical's ExcelsiusGPS system.

13. Bay Shore, N.Y.-based South Shore University Hospital debuted Zimmer Biomet's Rosa Knee robotic system for total joint replacements. 

14. Indiana (Pa.) Regional Medical Center became the first hospital in the tri-county region to offer Stryker's Mako SmartRobotics.

15. Enid, Okla.-based St. Mary's Regional Medical Center added Zimmer Biomet's Rosa Knee for total knee replacements. 

16. Neurosurgeon Kevin Foley, MD, performed Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Hospital's first spinal fusion with a new robotic system March 22. 

17. Athens, Tenn.-based Starr Regional Medical Center debuted Stryker's Mako robot for joint replacements.

18. Frank Vrionis, MD, and Timothy Miller, MD, completed the first robotic spine surgery at Marcus Neuroscience Institute in Boca Raton, Fla.

19. Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Fla., implemented the Navio surgical system to assist surgeons performing partial and total knee replacement surgeries using the Journey Uni knee. 

20. Geneseo, Ill.-based Hammond Henry Hospital added Zimmer Biomet's Rosa Knee for total joint replacements.
