DuBois, Pa.-based Penn Highlands Healthcare is now using the second generation Mako SmartRobotic software in partial and total knee replacement surgeries.
The upgraded software allows surgeons to be more accurate, precise and efficient while having greater control and flexibility, according to a May 22 news release.
The system also includes a new database that stores critical information, giving the surgeon a clearer image of how the alignment will be positioned.
Patients also benefit from the software, as less anesthesia and tourniquet time is required in each procedure.
Only a limited number of health systems were given early access to the software, the release said.
