Two spine surgeons in Pueblo, Colo., have added a robotic spinal guidance system, the Mazor X, according to a Feb. 18 report from CBS affiliate KKTV.
Surgeons Mimi Lundgren, DO, PhD, and Christina Koshak, MD, started using the robot in mid-January and have already completed several successful procedures.
The robot helps surgeons to improve precision, accuracy, efficiency and safety, especially during complex procedures, according to the report.
"What this allows us to do is just have a streamline from start to finish … with the O arm and the updated technology with the Mazor X to allow us to put in screws a lot quicker and then verify those screws in the operating room that they’re in the proper position, so a lot safer so overall," Dr. Lundgren told KKTV.
