Here are seven updates on medtech companies that Becker's has reported on since April 10:

Layoffs 

  • Medtronic is laying off 44 employees from its Carlsbad, Calif., facility.

Legal battles 

  • Three former Orthofix executives who were fired in 2023 filed arbitration claims alleging wrongful termination.
  • RSB Spine is suing Salt Lake City-based devicemaker Innovasis over a patent for the InterPlate device.

Robots and devices

  • Stryker's Mako Spine is on pace to launch in the fourth quarter, and the shoulder application is expected by the end of the year.
  • DePuy Synthes is launching its TriALTIS pedicle screw system.
  • Medtronic earned FDA approval for its Inceptiv closed-loop spinal cord stimulator.
  • OrthoPediatrics earned the FDA's breakthrough designation for the eLLi growing rod system for scoliosis.
