Oskaloosa, Iowa-based Mahaska Health has introduced the Velys Robotic-Assisted Solution to its orthopedic and sports medicine department, according to an Aug. 21 report by The Oskaloosa Herald.

The robotic system allows surgeons to be more precise during knee replacement procedures and create a custom surgery plan for each patient.

Using the system can lead to a reduction in post-operative pain and faster recovery times for patients.

Mahaska Health's orthopedics department is led by Jon Gehrke, MD, Neil Schwimley, DO, and Nathan Schneider, DO, according to its website.
