Georgia hospital board approves $2.3M for surgical robot

Rome, Ga.-based Floyd Medical Center could be getting a robotic surgical system as early as November, the hospital's director of surgical services told the Rome News-Tribune.

Three notes:

1. The hospital board, Floyd Healthcare Management, approved plans to buy a $2.3 million da Vinci Xi Surgical System.

2. Floyd Medical Center is now awaiting approval to acquire the system from the Department of Community Health.

3. Designed to improve precision in minimally invasive procedures, the da Vinci Xi is optimized for use in general, gynecological, urological and thoracic surgeries. It enables surgeons to guide instruments using a console.
