Arizona hospital adds joint replacement robot

Robotics

Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear, Ariz., has installed Stryker's Mako robot to augment hip and knee replacement services, Litchfield Park Independent reported Sept. 3.

The robot enables surgeons to create 3D preoperative plans and then guides them through the plan intraoperatively.

For partial knee replacements, surgeons can resurface the diseased portion of the knee, while helping to spare healthy bone and ligaments surrounding the knee joint.

Christina Khoury MD, and Lige Kaplan, MD, are two surgeons performing knee and hip replacements with the technology at the hospital.
