Dr. Lyall Ashberg debuts Mako robot at Florida hospital

Robotics

JFK Medical Center North Campus in West Palm Beach, Fla., debuted Stryker's Mako robot for joint replacements.

Lyall Ashberg, MD, performed the hospital's first joint replacement with the robot May 17, according to a May 20 report from South Florida Hospital News. The robot assists surgeons in positioning hip and knee implants accurately, allowing for faster recovery in some patients.

"The 3D CT allows me to create a personalized surgical plan based on each patient’s unique anatomy," Dr. Ashberg said. "During surgery, I can validate the plan and make any necessary adjustments. This allows me to execute the procedure with the highest degree of precision and accuracy."
