North Carolina practice launches robot-assisted knee surgery

Robotics

Vidant Orthopedics in Greenville, N.C., installed Zimmer Biomet's Rosa robot for total knee replacements, Reflector reported Nov. 18.

Rosa uses camera and optical trackers to help surgeons place knee implants and follow surgical plans. It uses a 3D model of the patient's knee, allowing surgeons to take a custom approach to each case.

The practice completed seven procedures with the robot in its first week, and more are scheduled. Rosa will also be available at Washington, N.C.-based Vidant Beaufort Hospital and Greenville-based Vidant SurgiCenter.
