North Carolina hospital performs 1st robotic-assisted knee replacement

Scott Grabill, DO, performed the first robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, N.C., The Daily Advance reported Feb. 11.

The procedure was performed with the Stryker Mako robot on Feb. 3.

The Mako robot uses a CT scan to create a patient-specific 3D model, which surgeons can then use to create a personalized surgical plan.
