Frye Regional Medical Center bolsters orthopedic program with robotics

Robotics

Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C. added Stryker's Mako robot for total knee, partial knee and total hip replacement in August, the Hickory Daily Record reported Oct. 2.

The hospital is the only one in the region to offer the technology, the report said. Michael Seel, MD, performed the first total knee case using Mako Aug. 31. The Mako system helps surgeons create and perform a 3D plan for joint replacements.

Dr. Seel, Phillip Bostian, MD, and Reed Russell, DO, are all trained to use Mako.

Robotics is the latest orthopedic development at Frye Regional Medical Center. In June, the hospital opened a 6,500-square-foot orthopedics center.
