Hansen Yuan, MD, is a spine surgeon and professor emeritus of the department of orthopedic surgery at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center. He is also a past president of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery and the North American Spine Society. He is also member of the American Medical Association, Orthopaedic Research Society and International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine. He has served the United States Army for a total of six years.
Dr. Yuan has authored more than 100 articles and several abstracts published in peer-reviewed journals. He has also been a contributing author of 16 chapters in medical books. His research interests include degenerative disc disease, scoliosis and bone healing and bone substitute. He has been a presidential guest to the Republic of China, speaking on orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Yuan earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at SUNY Upstate Medical Center, and then completed a post-graduate fellowship with Leon Wiltse, MD, where he focused on low back and cervical pain.
