10 Spine Surgeons Making Headlines This Week

Here are 10 spine surgeons who were in the news this past week.

 

 

Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, Mich., created the Harry N. Herkowitz, M.D., Distinguished Chair in Orthopaedics in honor of the late Dr. Harry Herkowitz. Jeffrey Fischgrund, MD, chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery at Beaumont is the first Herkowitz Distinguished Chair appointee.

 

ISASS was awarded a seat at the table of the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association, which ISASS President Gunnar Andersson, MD, PhD, will fill.

 

Kenneth Pettine, MD, completed his first series of M6-C implants as part of the U.S. FDA clinical trial at Arete Surgical Center in Johnstown, Colo.

 

Allegheny Health Network named Donald Whiting, MD, neurosurgery chairman.

 

Ramin Rak, MD, a board-certified neurosurgeon, was elected treasurer of the Suffolk County Medical Society.

 

Christopher R. Good, MD, a spine surgeon with the Reston-based Virginia Spine Institute, was selected for the "2014 Best of Reston Awards — Physicians."

 

David Kruger, MD, and Howard Lantner, MD, were present at the opening of The Spine Institute of Connecticut at Saint Francis, where they are medical directors. Aris Yannopoulos, MD, is the director of research.

 

President of Desert Institute for Spine Disorder and the International Surgical Foundation in Arizona Robert Duane Pitt, MD, will speak at the local "Docs for Dinner" event.

 

David Kim, MD, a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, will join the Columbus, Ohio-based OrthoNeuro in July.

 

Baraa AL-Hafez, MD, a neurosurgeon, announced he would provide care at Houston-based Mischer Neuroscience Institute, a collaboration between Memorial Herman-Texas Medical Center and The University of Texas Health Science Center.
